Mr Ward’s Map
November 23 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Elizabeth Cox is a Wellington historian and author of “Mr Ward’s Map: Victorian Wellington Street by Street”. It is full of the city’s social and architectural history, told through the incredibly detailed map drawn by surveyor and engineer Thomas Ward in the 1890s. Many people interested in Wellington heritage will be familiar with the map, as it gives such an accurate picture of the city at that time. It shows every house, commercial building, garden shed and outdoor toilet, and lots of other details. The 1890s were a time of great growth in the Mount Vic area, so there are lots of interesting details shown of the suburb.
