The Wellington City Council notified a proposed District Plan in July 2022, which is likely to have a significant impact on Mount Victoria’s heritage and ‘character’ areas.
The Mount Victoria Historical Society made submissions on the proposed District Plan in September 2022, and is involved in the hearings on the plan, taking place in 2023. More information is available on the WCC website.
To understand what the effect of the changes will be see the maps below. The proposed ‘character precincts’ reduce the scope of the pre-1930s demolition rule from the whole suburb to just the area outlined in pink:
